Peer Review- reviewing, reading, and commenting on other’s
work
Purposes of peer review: step in the writing process, get
feedback on work to lead to revision, gain the perspective of your peers and
appropriate feedback, practice reading and revising to apply to your own work,
gives you space from your paper, see other approaches or strategies used
Pros of peer review: more eyes on your paper before you hand
in to professor, good feedback can benefit you, practice revising & see
other perspectives
Cons of peer review: wrong advice given, may not put in the
time or effort, being too nice or not wanting to offend, hurt feelings, lack of
confidence to peer review, defensiveness
Deeper Revision: focusing on the elaboration, organization,
and asking questions of the author- a more effective way to peer review
Surface Revision: getting caught up looking at spelling and
grammar, not an effective peer review strategy
